The Pavlovia research platform enables you to create both psychology experiments (e.g., Stroop) as well as develop surveys and host them online using a URL so that participants simply take part in their internet browser.
As part of your degree you may need a Pavlovia account for lab classes, workshops, and/or your dissertation/thesis.
Here in Psychology, we have our own Pavlovia Departmental License that allows you to use the service without any restrictions. It is important when you sign up for an account, that you use your northumbria email address (e.g. your.name@northumbria.ac.uk).
Accounts are active for the duration of your study.
When it comes to creating surveys, you may have heard other students and perhaps staff mention Qualtrics. This was the service we used to use, and it will not be available for much longer (or at all if you are reading this in 2024). Pavlovia replaces this service and offers a similar level of functionality when it comes to creating surveys.
Signing up is easy. Simply head to Pavlovia and you should see the following page..
First off, click the Signup/Register button on the top toolbar and on the resulting page, click the Register Tab (1) on the right to get access to the short form...
Please use your northumbria email address for this (2) as this will latch to our account. Fill in the form, perform the reCAPTCHA task (3) and click Register (4).
You may have to verify your account via an email that will be sent to you.
Head to Pavlovia and sign in. When you sign in you should be taken to the Profile tab (1 below image) where you should see some information about the Northumbria License like the screen grab below (2).
If you do not see license information indicating you are part of the Northumbria license, please get in touch with Kris McCarty
Throughout your Pavlovia journey you may see the term 'GitLab' a lot. This refers to the backend server used to make Pavlovia work. Turbo nerds will likely know Git refers to the version control language popular on GitHub. GitLab by contrast is kind of like a private Github.
